In Loving Memory of Lorene Schafer
On Sunday, August 18, we stood witness to a life well-lived and said goodbye to a heart well-loved. Lorene Schafer left this world in complete peace, surrounded by her cherished family at Parkwood Institute in London, Ontario.
At the age of 16, Lorene found her soulmate in Dennis Schafer, and together, they built a life and legacy worthy of the movies. From her early days as a devoted nurse to her favourite roles as a friend, mother, and wife, Lorene embodied selflessness, always giving far more than she ever took.
She tied the shoes, wiped the tears, nurtured the dreams, and protected the hearts of her six endlessly proud children: Susan Dempsey (Tony), Kim Roberts (Dan), David, Faye Banks (Lee), Jane Canie (Rick), and Dan (Tracey).
She kept the secrets, baked the treats, watched over the pool, and cheered the loudest for her 15 ever-grateful grandchildren: Tyler, Tim, and Emily Dempsey; Ryan, Colleen, Kara, and Amie Roberts; Garrett and Jenna Banks; Alexandra, Regan, and Ariel Canie; and Jake, Max, and Sam Schafer.
She kissed the cheeks, framed the photos, sang the praises, and prayed for the futures of her 15 lucky great-grandchildren: Oakley, Boston, Sawyer, Makena, Camden, Paisley, Kennedi, Jack, Gigi, Everlee, Paxton, Harlow, William, Harvey, and Fox.
What more could one ask for in this life than to have loved and been loved by someone like Lorene? Her beautiful penmanship is etched on the bookmarked pages of our hearts, and it will be our honor to ensure her memory continues to grow alongside us all.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Lorene’s life will be celebrated at St. George Parish, 1164 Commissioners Road West, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend a livestream of the service is available. Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery, London, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Lorene’s memory to the SickKids Foundation. For online condolences and donation information, please visit www.westviewfuneralchapel.com
