Township of Chapleau

Water & Sewage

Water and wastewater services are carried out by the Ontario Clean Water Agency for the Township of Chapleau through a contract services agreement. These services include the operation and maintenance of the Township's water treatment plant, sanitary sewage treatment plant and sanitary sewage pumping stations.

The water treatment plant opened as a new facility in 1976. It has a service population of 3,300. The water plant is a full system treatment facility and is the first plant in Ontario to have utilized a sewage sludge bagging system to collect clarifier sludge. The sludge is disposed of at the landfill site instead of in the aerated lagoon. It has a fully automated back up power system.

The sewage treatment plant opened as a new facility in 1985. It has the same service population as the water treatment plant. The plant is a two lagoon aerated system, with a grit removal chamber. The plant does not require a back up power system. The three pumping stations have fully automated back up power systems and are rated for the service population mentioned above.
