REMINDER: Be Careful What you Flush
MEDIA RELEASE
Date: April 22, 2021
For Immediate Release
A reminder to be careful what you flush
Wet wipes, paper towels, facial tissues and face cloths can clog pipes.
We would like to remind residents not to flush wet wipes of any kind. Despite what some packaging says, wipes are not flushable. Paper towels, facial tissues, feminine hygiene products, face cloths and rags also do not belong in the toilet. These items cannot be flushed because they do not break down like toilet paper does.
If wipes, paper towels, facial tissues and fabric towels and cloths are flushed, they can cause blockages in pipes which may lead to sewage backups in your home or business.
Further down the line, these items can clog mains and result in sewage lift station pump failure. This could lead to costly damage to local wastewater infrastructure
NO EXCEPTIONS. PLEASE PUT USED WIPES, PAPER TOWELS, FACIAL TISSUES AND ALL FABRIC TOWELS AND CLOTHS IN THE GARBAGE!
Thank you for working with us to keep our community’s Wastewater infrastructure functioning smoothly.
A message from the Township of Chapleau in partnership with our Wastewater operators, the Ontario Clean Water Agency.
