SCHMIDT, Wilma - Peacefully passed away at her home on Monday, May 17, 2021 at the age of 85 years. Beloved wife of the late Conrad Schmidt. Loving mother of Steven Schmidt, Bernadette Schmidt (Rob Linn), Marc Beaulieu (Laura) and Roch Beaulieu (Lisa). Adored grandmother of Cole Szanto, Morgan and Ben Beaulieu. Dear sister of Donalda Brown (Ed).  Wilma will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wilma was born in Flesherton, Ontario in the Grey Highlands, taught in North York where she met the love of her life.  She and Con married and in 1964 moved to Chapleau.

A mainstay of the United Church, she led the choir and played the organ. The barbershop group she led became a fixture at local community events and beyond.  She is lovingly remembered by her colleagues and the innumerable students she taught at Chapleau Public School along with the many piano students she nurtured over the years.

Always the consummate hostess, in her retirement she turned her passion for food and entertaining into a business, teaming up with Bette O’Shaughnessy, Helen Santerre and Mary Bernier at the Toute Sweet Coffeeshop.

A keen observer of human behaviour, a quick wit, a loving wife, she was mother to many ... many.  She was unceasingly kind, generous and thrifty - a pillar of the community. Beloved. Surrounded by family, she died with a smile on her face. A life well lived.

The family would like to express their profound appreciation to Dr. Kendra Saari, Hillary Saari RN, Guillaume Tremblay RPN, Ashley Paquette, Simone Keller , Allison Irwin, Robin Greer, Charlsie Rheaume, Marie Helene Ladouceur, and the whole Family Health Team. Our deep gratitude to Dr.’s Labelle, Hirst, and Woods, the wonderful staff at the Timmins Hospital and especially the lovely and caring folks at the oncology unit.

Cremation has taken place at River's Edge Cremation Centre, Sault Ste. Marie.  Due to Covid19, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements entrusted to the Kerry Funeral Home Ltd., Wawa,  1-800-439-4937. www.kerryfuneralhome.ca
