Notice of Parking and Traffic By-Law
The Township of Chapleau’s Parking and Traffic regulations help to ensure the safety of our roadways and walkways. By-Law 2020-52 has been enacted to update and consolidate municipal traffic regulations, a copy of which can be found online at www.chapleau.ca.

Key By-Law Revisions:

  • Time Limit: On-street parking in the Downtown Core (Birch, Beech, Lorne and Young) is limited to 2 hours and new signs will be posted early in the New Year with enforcement to follow.
  • Transit Bus Parking: The transit-bus parking spot on Birch Street outside the Post Office has been removed. Effective immediately, this location is no longer restricted.
  • Accessible Parking: Two new accessible parking spots have been created in the Downtown Core to assist those with mobility challenges in accessing local businesses. A valid and properly displayed accessible parking permit allows people to park in these spaces. The penalty for parking in these locations without a valid permit is $200 and enforcement will begin in January 2021. The two locations are:
    1. Birch Street near the pharmacy; and
    2. Lorne Street near the News Depot
  • Overnight Parking: Between November 1st and April 30th of each year, on-street parking is prohibited between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m (previously this was 8:00 a.m.) to support snow removal efforts by the municipality. The By-Law has been revised to provide an additional hour in the morning for business which require on-street parking for their customers.
  • Parking Infractions: Many of the parking fines have been increased (e.g. the set fine for parking where prohibited by a posted sign has increased from $15 to $25).
