Death Notice of Mrs. Selma Victoria Crichton

CRICHTON, Selma Victoria 'Sally' - Passed away very peacefully at the Bignucolo Residence, Chapleau on Friday August 17, 2012 in her 89th year.  Beloved wife of the late Joseph 'Joe' Crichton.  Cherished mother of the late James 'Jim' (2008), George Crichton (Kate) and Mary Ann Crichton.  Adored grandmother of Kim Crichton-Struthers (Mike Struthers),Tara Lewis, Lisi Crichton-Bernier (Paul Bernier), Victoria and Olivia Crichton.  Great grandmother of Blair, Jordan and Amelia.  Loving daughter of the late Tomas and Elizabeth Uugo.  Sally will be lovingly remembered by her five cousins and their families.  Friends are invited to visit at Trinity United Church on Saturday October 6th from 10:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Anna Chikoski officiating.  Interment of ashes at the Chapleau Township Protestant Burial Grounds.

Born of Estonian parents in Chapleau, Sally at 15 promised Joe to wait for him until after the war. She then moved with her mother to Toronto, attending Jarvis Collegiate and later working in the lab, for Connaught Laboratories during the war.  Married in 1945, theirs is an enduring love story. Sally and Joe built a wonderful fishing lodge near Amyot, ON and they loved their way of life in the bush, working hard and watching the seasons.  She was a devoted grandmother and loved being with her grandchildren, caring, cooking and knitting for them.  She was always happy to 'be on the road', whether to see her friends or grandchildren, attend one of their events, vacation with them, or picnic on the lake.  Famous for her amazing soups and pies, love, care and consideration of her family and friends, her independent thinking, feistiness, fun and one-liners will be greatly missed by all she knew.

Special thanks to the nurses, staff and doctors at the Bignucolo Residence for their supportive care. Memorial donations made to the Chapleau Trinity United Church, Chapleau General Hospital Foundation, Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.  Online condolences and memories can be sent by visiting the Toronto Star website at  www.thestar.com (death notices).  (Funeral arrangements entrusted to the P.M. Gilmartin Funeral Home, Wawa, 1-800-439-4937).
