MEDIA RELEASE

$150,000 OTF Grant Used for Renovations at the Chapleau Recreation Centre

April 7, 2022 – Chapleau, ON – Last year, the Township of Chapleau received the good news that it was successful in its application for a $150,000 Resilient Community Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).  The grant program was developed by OTF to help the non-profit sector to rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19.  Funds from the grant are being used to renovate the Chapleau Recreation Centre’s washrooms. Work is expected to be completed in the coming months.

“Northern Ontarians know that the best path to making life better for our youth, our families and our seniors is to not just support our communities but rather help them grow, become stronger,” said MPP Michael Mantha in response to the news of the OTF grant. He explained that growth and strength lead to resilience when times do get tough when challenges such as the pandemic hit. “What could be better for community strength and development than investing in Chapleau’s Recreation Centre? Bringing people together provides incredible opportunities for both physical and mental health and promotes community pride, spirit and support.” Mantha said he is confident the people of Chapleau and area will benefit tremendously from this generous investment.

The renovation will “re-build” the capacity of the Chapleau Recreation Centre. In addition to upgrading the facilities, the grant has also helped the Township replace the Centre’s flooring and install of hands-free equipment.

“Many thanks for the support shown to the Municipality,” said Mayor Michael Levesque. “Our arena is central to our community activities. Modernization of this facility is greatly appreciated”.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. Last year, nearly $112M was invested into 1,384 community projects and partnerships to build healthy and vibrant communities and strengthen the impact of Ontario’s non-profit sector. In 2020/21, OTF supported Ontario’s economic recovery by helping non-profit organizations rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
