Death Notice of Ms. Emma Alice St. Denis
ST. DENIS, Emma (October 19, 1941 - April 27, 2014) - With her loved ones nearby, Emma St. Denis (nee Ketchegesick), age 72 of Timmins, ON made her journey into the spirit world on Sunday April 27th, 2014. Born in Chapleau, Ontario, Emma resided there for much of her adult life and because of health reasons, she had to leave the community in 2012. Although saddened by this, she continued to talk about her fond memories of Chapleau often, particularly her daily coffee jaunts to sit with friends and family at the local coffee hangout. Emma is predeceased by her beloved Raymond Campbell, her father Thomas, her mother Susan, her brothers Joseph and Alex and her children, Michael and David. Emma is survived by her siblings Sam and Yvonne (Warner), her children Paul (Marlina), Peter (Regina), Darlene Lafontaine (Maurice), Linda Keay (Michael), and Cheryl St. Denis (Raymond). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Daniel, Tim, Brandon, Julie, Courtney, Lindsay, Sydney, Cheyenne, Sierra and Kennedy and her great grandchildren Arianna, Kolby and Noah. Along with her nieces and nephews, she also had many friends and others who adored her dearly. Emma was a kind, loving mother and grandmother. Family was a joy and marvel for her and she took pride in the achievements of her children and grandchildren. At any time, you would see her with any member of her family enjoying their company and socializing with them whether over coffee or cheering them on while they participated in sporting or other social events. Her love of reading, music and her spirit of volunteerism will continue on through her family. Emma attended residential school for fourteen years. Despite the trials and tribulations she faced while attending the school, she was a survivor and rekindled her spirit through the love of family and friends. Her faith in the Creator and her optimistic outlook on life was never ending and these traits were and will continue to be strongly admired. At the age of 51, Emma completed her college diploma in Native Community Care and Counselling through Cambrian College in Sudbury thus becoming a role model for many and inspiring others to reach a higher level of education. She took much pride with this accomplishment while she watched her loved ones pursue their dreams. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation for the caregivers involved in her health care throughout the years and into her final hours. The compassion shown towards Emma will never be forgotten. Family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the P.M. Gilmartin Visitation Centre, Chapleau (1-800-439-4937) on Friday, May 2nd. A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 4:00 p.m. Following the mass, a time of fellowship and refreshments will be held in the Parish Hall. In lieu, of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
