BARTY, Raymond (Ray) – At the age of 97 years, of Chapleau, Ontario, passed away on Tuesday November 19th, 2024 in Chapleau at the Chapleau Health Services in the company of family.

Ray was born in Chapleau to Fred and Caroline Barty on April 18th, 1927. He worked for the town of Chapleau for many years along with being a guide for the Chapleau Lodge and a lifetime trapper. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family above all. 

Ray is predeceased by his wife Ida Barty, parents Fred and Caroline Barty, siblings Harvey, Ronald an-d Stanley Barty and survived by his sister Carolin Houghton, daughter Frances Ellen Miletic, his son Thomas Micheal Barty, his grandchildren Ray Ellen Nothing,  Catherine Barnes and Graham Barty, his great grandchildren, Jonathon Korytko, Nichole Korytko, Tyler Barnes, Taya Staples and Brandon Berthelot, great great grandchildren, Ava (13), Angela (11), Jacob (9), Cashis (8), Nina (5), Theodore (4), Nova (3) and Ezmae (2). 

Ray did not wish to have any grand celebrations or funerals, just a simple cremation and to be laid to rest with his lost love Ida, so we are going to honour and remember him the best way we can by sharing the great stories of Ray whenever we speak of him. 

Memorial donations may be made to Chapleau Cree First Nations, Please note: ** In memory of Raymond Barty ** Fox Lake Rd, Box 400, Chapleau, ON P0M 1K0. Where a memorial in Ray's honor will be made.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to everyone whose thoughts and prayers go out to them in this time of grieving such a great loss. Chapleau was his home and where he wanted to be and Ray was able to live a full life doing what he loved right to the end. Ray was the oldest Elder at Chapleau Cree First Nations at the time of his passing and he was proud of his heritage. Ray's generosity knew no bounds when it came to sharing his harvests and his secrets, a loss of this magnitude will be felt by the whole community.  Miigwetch, Thank you.
