Mining Readiness and Growth Strategy

The Chapleau Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) and the Township of Chapleau commissioned a Mining Readiness and Growth Strategy to help the community identify opportunities associated with mining development. CEDC and Township staff worked with KPMG to develop the report, and the draft was presented to the Council and the CEDC Board of Directors on July 11th by Mr. Oscar Poloni of KPMG.

Funded by the CEDC and the Township of Chapleau with support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and FedNor Industry Canada, this study is based on case studies from communities across the Province. This will allow Township departments and Economic Development to staff make informed decisions based on best practices and lessons learned from the experiences of these communities.

An initial public information session was held in January, and a follow-up took place August 17th to present the results of this Strategy to the community. The event was attended by more than 45 individuals representing business and community interests. Subsequent events in September, October, and November 2016 were also well attended and gave business owners and entrepreneurs additional information on how best to capitalize on increased mining activity.

On February 27th, 2017 Council approved Addendum No. 1 to the Mining Readiness and Growith Strategy in order to update the document with information made available subsequent to the release of the original Strategy.
